Ceramics Classes in Barcelona: A Complete Guide

If you live in Barcelona — or you are just passing through — and you have been thinking about trying pottery, you are in the right place. The city is full of ceramics studios, and choosing one can feel a bit overwhelming. Weekly classes, one-off sessions, wheel throwing, hand building... what is what? This guide breaks it all down so you can find the option that fits your life, your schedule, and your curiosity.

Weekly classes: build a creative routine

Weekly classes are the most popular format for anyone who wants pottery to become part of their week. You pick a fixed day and time, and every week you come in for a two-hour session to work on your projects. At La Mesa, the weekly class costs 120 euros per month and everything is included: clay, glazes, tools, and both kiln firings that every piece needs.

What makes weekly classes special is the community. You share the table with the same people each week, and something organic happens: conversations flow, people share tips, someone asks a question and everyone learns. It is not a school with a curriculum — it is a shared creative space where you progress at your own pace.

No experience is needed. Most people who start a weekly class at La Mesa have never touched clay before. We are there to guide you from day one, step by step, without any pressure. And because we are in La Barceloneta — five minutes from the beach — you can always finish your session with a stroll along the waterfront.

Drop-in sessions: total flexibility

If your schedule does not allow you to commit to a fixed day, a drop-in session is the way to go. You book when it works for you, come in for a minimum of two hours, and work on whatever you like. It is perfect for trying pottery for the first time, for a gift experience, or simply for fitting ceramics into a busy week.

At La Mesa, drop-in sessions include all materials — clay, tools, glazes, and firings. No hidden costs, no surprises. You just show up, sit down, and we walk you through everything. If you have never done pottery before, you might want to read about what to expect at your first class so you arrive feeling confident.

Intro to the wheel: for the wheel-curious

There is something mesmerising about the potter's wheel. If you have ever watched a video of someone centering clay and pulling up a cylinder and thought "I want to try that", the intro to the wheel is for you. It consists of two sessions where we teach you the fundamentals: centering, opening, and pulling walls. Groups are limited to two people so you get genuinely personalised attention.

The intro to the wheel costs 90 euros and includes materials and firings. After that, if you are hooked, you can keep practising in our wheel coworking sessions or add wheel work to your weekly class.

Flex studio and wheel coworking

For experienced potters who already know what they are doing and just need a space with kilns, materials, and good company, we offer the flex studio. It is designed for ceramicists who want autonomy in their practice. We also have wheel coworking sessions where you bring your project and use our wheels in a shared, relaxed environment.

Why La Mesa is different

There are plenty of ceramics studios in Barcelona, and they all have something to offer. What makes La Mesa different is how we think about the space. We are not a school. There is no syllabus, no grades, no set path you have to follow. We are a creative lab where you come to experiment, get your hands dirty, and enjoy the process.

We are based in La Barceloneta, at Carrer de l'Atlantida 47, on a quiet street in one of the city's most charming neighbourhoods. After class you can grab something to eat by the sea or take a walk along the harbour. That is part of the experience too.

Everything is included in every format we offer: high-temperature clay, glazes, tools, and both firings. No fine print. And because our groups are small, we know your name, your projects, and your rhythm. You do not need to speak Spanish either — our community is international and everyone is welcome regardless of language or background.

What we really want is for you to walk in and feel at home. To work with your hands, switch off from screens, and take something home that you made yourself. Everything else follows from there.
